HIGH-FLYING LINNETS SINK BOLD NORTON
21st October 2006
NORTON UNITED 1 RUNCORN LINNETS 2

Norton pushed table-topping Runcorn Linnets all the way but eventually fell short after a brave performance. Dean Latham in the Norton goal was in terrific form and made four outstanding saves in the first half alone.
But he could do little about the penalty on 24 minutes that it took to put Runcorn ahead.
In the second half, Norton hit back almost immediately as Paul Tortoiseshell put Robert Adlington clear and he scored with ease after rounding the keeper..
However, parity lasted only four minutes as Thompson nipped in to drive past Latham and restore Runcorn’s lead.
Norton upped the pace and despite going close on a number of occasions failed to gain the equaliser.
They were unlucky – it was a goal they richly deserved.
The sending off of Thompson, by the referee, was for a shocking late tackle on Keeper Latham.

Norton: Latham, Robson, Kerrigan, Davis, Kirk, Roberts, Shotton, Beasley, Adlington, Wylie, Rigby. Subs: Murphy, Goodwin, Tortoiseshell.
